Meet Tiffany Mendoza, Bilingual Advocacy Supervisor
How long have you been an Advocacy Supervisor?
It will be three years November 4, 2023.
What do you do at CASA?
I supervise and handle all the bilingual Spanish speaking cases.
Why is this important?
This is important because a large percentage of the children and families we serve are bilingual or Spanish speaking, in some capacity. If we do not have a bilingual volunteer available for a case, there still needs to be someone who can communicate and actively advocate for the children's best interests. It is important, especially to me, to represent the community we serve as an organization.
What is it like working at CASA?
Working at CASA, you are NEVER bored and as the rest of the staff will tell you, there is NEVER a dull moment with any of my cases. My days primarily consist of LOTS of court hearings, court report writing/editing, and visiting with children on my caseload.
What do you like most about working at CASA?
I like being someone that my CASA children can count on being there, even though my CASAs do an amazing job advocating, I know when they have questions or need help, I am always there to help them, which HELPS the children we serve!
What has been the most surprising thing about your job?
The most surprising thing about my job is how influential it is. I knew being a part of this organization would be rewarding, but I did not realize how influential it would be. It has definitely influenced how I see others and the world around me.
How do you feel about the work that CASA volunteers do?
The work that CASA volunteers do is AMAZING! They are so crucial and I commend them and their extremely large hearts!
Are you a CASA, or have you been a CASA?
I am a CASA. All new staff go through the same pre-service training that our CASAs do. I am currently a CASA on 5 of my cases.
What is something people wouldn’t know about you?
I am the in-house barista! It all started when our new Keurig coffee machine came. I will not say WHO ruined the first pot of coffee. However, I will say since I made the first, best pot of coffee, EVERYONE in the office looks forward to that first morning pot and occasional second pot, made by yours truly! The CASA office cannot function without our volunteers, but coffee is the second essential force! I take pride in knowing my contribution, both in my role within the organization and coffee-making skill, is what helps us keep going!
